We’re Still Talking about Meatless Monday

The Meatless Monday movement is really starting to gather steam.  The statistics vary, depending on what source you’re looking at, but even die-hard meat eaters have to agree that going meatless one day a week can make  a noticeable difference not only for the environment, but in how we feel and our overall health.

Several of our accounts are going meatless every Monday.  St. Catherine’s school has embraced the concept & run with it (they’ve even blogged about it! link ).  Cece & Angela have consistently delivered a great variety of meatless dishes.  Some recipes they’ve found in our Cheftec system, but they’ve also had great success getting ideas & recipes directly from MeatlessMonday.com.  They’ve done such an outstanding job, the school is writing articles about them & the Meatless Monday folks (from Johns Hopkins) have contacted them!  Google “Meatless Monday” & see the endless list of possibilities.

Can you try this?  At home or in your food service operation?  If you can’t go meatless one day a week, can you display some of the statistics near your vegetarian/meatless offerings?  Can you do a FFY station that features yummy, popular selections that are meatless, and have the staff really talk up the benefits of  being a ‘flexitarian’, or occasionally going without meat?   Many ethnic foods lend themselves to the meatless movement.  Thai, Korean, Indian, Mexican, Brazilian, Cuban, etc…. are just a few of the cuisines that do an outstanding job of delivering tasty, high protein foods without meat.

Every one of us can have an impact on our environment.  The decisions you make today will have a lasting effect for generations to come.  Challenge yourself to go meatless one day a week….can you feel the difference???
